The 10×12 shed is one of our most popular sheds. And it’s popular for good reason! The 10×12 is a great size for your basic storage needs. It doesn’t overtake your small backyard, but it still allows plenty of space for a riding mower. It can also be a quiet place for you to work on your hobbies or even a little bedroom for your daughter who is home from college for the summer. The options are endless!

But is 10×12 the right size for you? Before you spend a month of Saturdays building a 10×12 or your last paycheck getting us to build you one, you want to be sure that it really is the right choice. We’ve been helping people choose the right shed for them since 1972, so let us help you.

Scroll on down and read this brief guide to help you decide whether a 10×12 shed is really what you need. We’ll also show you some different design options for your new shed and give you some ideas for how you can maximize the space.

How much does a 10×12 shed cost?

The cost of your new shed is going to depend a lot on whether you build or buy. If you buy, there are options for cheaply-made economy sheds. Obviously, higher quality sheds are going to cost more; that’s no shocker!

Let’s look at a few different options.

Our pricing for a 10×12 storage shed starts at about $3,000 for a painted cottage-style shed. The vinyl cottage shed starts around $3,400. Both of these come standard with a set of double doors and two windows. We also have a 10×12 run-in shed (starting at $2,400) for your outdoor storage or animal, as well as a 10×12 generator shed that starts at $3,400.

Even though we would be delighted to build you the shed of your dreams, we do encourage you to shop around. You’ll find that there are cheaper 10×12 sheds out there. Just like with any other product, you’ll need to decide what is most important to you – cost or quality.

What will fit into a 10×12 storage building?

Your 10×12 can become a home to a whole variety of things. On the practical side of things, it can hold a riding mower, a motorcycle, four-wheeler, or go-kart. Or, if you’re looking for a little personal space, it could hold a twin bed with a nightstand, dresser, and stocked mini-fridge. You could put in a few bookshelves with a couch and recliner.

Just remember: don’t fill every single inch of your shed. You want to be able to get in, around, and out without any damage to you or your possessions.

The scale models below will give you an idea of what could fit in your shed. Take notice of the placement of the doors (marked in blue). We’ll learn more about this further down, but doors make a big difference in how you’re able to use your storage space.
